Natural Skin Care

By Celia Namart

Natural skin care is not something modern, in fact it is the most basic skin care methods known to men, a long time before we were watching television commercials that showed us elaborate scientists explaining how their new formula had made a breakthrough in skin research and skin care humans have been using the things that grow around them as remedies for skin problems and found many herbs and plants that helped the skin to look better, younger and healthier.

It is not surprising that most of the people on earth will be more suspicious of a chemical product that has been developed in laboratories and tested on animals time and time again, while science has made human life what it is today it is still fighting many battles with understanding the way that the skin works and the needs of the human skin, not to mention the features and qualities that human skin has.

The need for skin care products is on the rise and that is a direct result of more and more people in the world have problems with the effects the chemical skin care products, while it is true that many others enjoy the same chemical skin care products there are many others that have serious problems with it.

The battle for a better skin in fact a fight to balance and nurture the skin, the human skin is effected from its environment, and the modern life has also a heavy toll on the health of our skin, the products that are on the market for skin care are in fact balancing products that aim to restore the main qualities f the skin and strengthen it in order to protect it from the damage that is inflicted on it daily. The advantage to the natural skin care products is that the scientists that make these products do not use any chemicals so the risk that the person using the product will be sensitive to it is relatively low, even though there are some people who are extremely sensitive and can not use even a natural and non chemical skin care products, but these are very rare in the population.

The ingredients used in natural skin care are taken for the natural world, you can find many different kinds of flowers like lavender and the cedar wood, the use of honey and oats of different kinds is also common among the natural skin care products, the researchers search every organic product for its potential qualities and apply them to the skin, sometimes creating a sort of cycle in which products that are generally considered foods are used to nourish the skin and protect it.

Skin care is a very delicate matter, it is important that we use efficient products that will protect and nourish our skin, there are many products on the markets around the world, but it seems that the natural skin care option is growing bigger with time, it is only natural that many of us will try the natural solution for our skin care needs.

Natural Skin Care

You may be contemplating if buying a natural skin care product is an investment in your own fountain of youth or a waste of hard earned money. While many natural skin care products make outrageous claims that they cannot live up to, a few legitimate products do exist that can improve the appearance of your skin. While nothing short of a miracle or plastic surgery can erase all of Father Time's footprints across your face, some products can help ease the pain and allow you to age gracefully.

The environment we all live in suffers greatly from pollution. The temperature is rising all over the world and there is a growing voice morning the destruction of the world we live in. Many living things suffer from the transformation in the environment and the human skin is one of them. Our sun is one of the bigger enemies of the skin and the more exposure to it the more damage is added. As we mature, we need more help to conceal the battle waged upon our skin.

Anti aging products are among the most popular types of natural skin care products on the market. While many anti aging skin care products claim to produce drastic results, in reality, factors like diet, lifestyle and heredity determine if we will age gracefully or not. An anti aging natural skin care product can help reduce fine lines, smooth a complexion or slightly fade age spots, but it cannot stop time for your skin.

Aging natural skin care differs from caring for young skin drastically. Youthful skin replenishes its own moisture and nutrients to a large degree. Aging skin produces less collagen, resulting in lines and wrinkles and an all over thinning of the skin all over the body. Aging natural skin care products add extra moisture, collagen and vitamins vital to better damaged skin. Aging natural skin care focuses on restoration, not maintenance.

No matter if you choose to grow old gracefully or fight Father Time for every wrinkle, natural skin care products touch nearly everyone in America at some point during this journey we call life. There are probably a few natural skin care products hiding in your medicine cabinet, even if it is just moisturizer. A natural skin care product will be here long after most of us moved on to a better place and our children will pick up where we left off.

What is Natural Skin Care?

By Kenneth Myers

Put simply, ‘natural skin care’ is caring for your skin in a natural and chemical-free way. ‘Natural skin care’ advocates enabling the skin to take care of itself (without any assistance from synthetic materials/ chemicals). ‘Natural skin care’ is about inculcation of good habits in the way you lead your day to day life. A lot of natural skin care measures are actually the same as those for body care in general.

So let’s see what these natural skin care measures are.

Well the first and the foremost natural skin care measure is – ‘Drink a lot of water’. Around 8 glasses of water is a must everyday. Water helps in flushing out the toxins from the body, in a natural way. It helps in the overall upkeep of the body and promotes good health for all organs (not just skin).

General cleanliness is another inexpensive way of natural skin care. Daily shower, wearing clean clothes and sleeping on a clean mattress/pillow are all part of general cleanliness. After all, clean skin is the key to keeping the skin disorders at bay.

Regular exercise is the next thing on the cards. Exercise increases the flow of blood that helps in getting rid of body toxins and keeping you healthy. Exercise also helps in beating stress which is the worst enemy of good health.

Healthy food and eating habits are also recommended for natural skin care. Some type of food (e.g. oily food) is know to cause acne and should be avoided as much as possible. Your diet should be a healthy mix of various nutrient providing foods. Raw fruits and vegetables are known to provide freshness to your body and help in getting rid of body toxins.

A good sleep is also instrumental in maintaining good health and in beating stress. As a natural skin care measure, a good sleep delays slacking of skin.

Beating stress is another natural skin care therapy. Stress causes overall damage to body and health. Drinking a lot of water, getting a sound sleep and exercise has already been mentioned as stress busters. Indulging in a warm bubble bath, listening to music and playing your favourite sport are also good ways of beating stress. Yoga is yet another way of beating stress; it is fast gaining popularity amongst the masses.

Avoiding excessive exposure to sun (by wearing long sleeved clothes, hat and umbrella etc), is another natural skin care strategy. Sunscreen lotions are also recommended as necessary.

A lot of traditional and home made natural skin care products/ measures are also known to be very effective. Such measures are not only natural and easy-to-follow, but also relatively inexpensive.

Besides that, a lot of natural skin care products are available in the commercial market. These include things like lavender oil, aloe vera etc., which don’t have any side effects.

Natural Skin Care

Your skin is the most expansive part of your body. So, here is another genuine reason to take special care and attention of it. The skin care kits you get in the stores tend to be very expensive. The truth of knowing how to get good skin is as easy as knowing how to eat smart. Here are some natural skin care tips for you to keep your skin glowing and healthy.

Moisturizers

If you have dry skin, drink lots of water. This is to hydrate your skin and to bring back your skins glow. Also tuck into vegetables and fruits like cantaloupe which have high water content. Fish like salmon, trout and mackerel are rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are good lubricants for the skin. Walnuts and flax seeds also contain essential oils. Taking about oils, olive oil can be the best friend of arid skin as it contains anti-oxidants that will keep your pores clear. So try to dress your food with olive oil as often as possible and marvel as your skin turns dewy in a few weeks.

Sun Screens

No body will dare insinuate that there is a substitute for sunscreen. But colourful berries like strawberries, blue berries, raspberries etc can reduce any potential damage the sun could cause your skin. This is because they are loaded with anti-oxidants. A rule of thumb is that the darker the berry, the greater is its nutritional value.

Pimple proof

Never worry about chocolate making you breaks out - that is just a common myth. Have dark green and orange vegetables and orange fruit as they are rich in beta-carotene which is converted as vitamin A in the body and helps heal and construct new skin. Vitamin B2 found in almonds, walnuts, wheat germ, Soya bean is known as the best beauty vitamin because it gets rid of the skins common maladies like oiliness, whiteheads, blackheads etc.

Anti-wrinkles

Wrinkles are inevitable. So instead of opting for the expressionless horror that is botox, why not just keep to a diet that is rich in protein and essential fats. As mentioned fish contain omega 3 fatty acids that help your cells maintain their flexibility and functionality. Protein is your skin's repairman and therefore lean eats like chicken and turkey, nuts and soy are very essential for resilient skin. In this way you get to stave off those unsightly lines and grin unabashedly about it.

A wonderful side effect of your new skin kit is that you will be shedding pounds without lifting a finger, except maybe to feed yourself something your skin will thank you for later.

You work hard to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. You know that organic foods can help you avoid ingesting nasty hormones and chemicals but did you know that these toxins are creeping into your system in other ways? Your moisturizers, eye creams, and make up may seem harmless, but check out the labels and you'll find a laundry list of tongue-twisting ingredients, many of which could be hazardous to your health. In a recent survey, conducted by Health, eighty three percent of responding consumers indicated that they would rather use all natural body products. The skin care industry is responding to this demand. The natural and organic skin care product sector has seen a growth of thirty nine percent over the last year. Some of these products may claim to be all-natural, while still containing a slew of chemicals and toxins. Here's what you need to know about natural skin care and how to determine if the product you are using is free of harmful chemicals.

Why Choose Natural Skin Care Products?

There is approximately six pounds of skin on your body which provides a porous membrane into your system. Dirt, dust, pollutants, and other environmental pollutants enter the body through the skin, providing a more significant gateway to your system than food. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) found that 884 chemicals used in personal care products and cosmetics are known to be toxic. And a recent Canadian study in Pediatric Drugs found cosmetic and personal care products as the most common cause of unintentional poisonings of kids under six.

The chemicals and toxins found in most commercial skin care products also have a detrimental effect on the environment, although this effect is just beginning to be understood. In March, a team of US Geological Survey scientists showed that a variety of chemicals from personal care products were among 95 wastewater contaminants found in US waterways.

Why poison yourself and the environment with toxic chemicals and pollutants? Natural skin care products are healthier for you, for your skin, and for the environment. But many products may claim to be all-natural while still containing a number of harmful ingredients. Make sure you read and understand the product label to ensure that the product your using is as natural as it claims to be.

Reading the Ingredients Label

Organic personal care manufacturing needs strict standards and enforcement in order to be effective. Currently, some manufacturers claim their products are organic merely as a marketing gimmick. One look at their products ingredients clearly suggests otherwise. Only by tying organic beauty care closely to the National Organic Program standards can the “lifestyle” marketed by the manufacturers represent the values at the core of organic agriculture.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classifies cosmetics into 13 categories, but it does not regulate them. According to the FDA, “A cosmetic manufacturer may use any ingredient or raw material and market the final product without government approval.” Seven toxins are banned, but many more known toxins and carcinogens are allowed in cosmetic formulations. Less than one percent of the FDA’s budget is for the evaluation of skin care products.

Many commercial skin care products have been regularly found to contain toxic chemicals. Surprisingly, most personal care products are not tested for health and safety. And because the FDA does not regulate skin care manufacturers, questionable ingredients often make their way into their formulas. These ingredients may seem harmless in the short-term, but their chemical components are stored in the fatty tissues of the body where they accumulate and magnify over time.

Cosmetics and personal care products are marketed based on the quality and content of their formulas. Many products claim to be filled with expensive vitamins, oils, and perfumes. Others claim to utilize an all-natural formula. But how can you be sure that the products you buy actually contain the ingredients they claim to have? Read the label, right? But unless you happen to be a scientist or chemist, the ingredient list on most cosmetics and personal care products will look like a long list of mind-numbing, tongue-twisting names.

This is where natural and organic skin care products should stand out. If a product claims to be all natural, its ingredients should be easily recognizable as natural components. Also, the ingredients should be listed in descending order with the most prominent factors listed first. Scrutinize the first several listings in the product to be sure that they are the natural ingredients you are looking for. If a skin care product contains an ingredient that you are unsure about, write down it's name and do a little research. A quick online search should reveal it's true nature. As a consumer, you need to be on the look out for chemicals and toxic ingredients that can be harmful to your skin and your body. You would not even think about eating a food that contained chemicals or cancer causing agents. Don't let these toxins enter your system through your beauty product either!

Natural Skin Care

Skin is the body's mirror of our health and wellness, both physical and emotional. A human being has different types of hair such as oily, dry and normal hair. Each type of hair needs to be given extra care. Natural treatment is best for skin. Natural and herbal hair care colour products which are not harmful to your skin. Natural skin care is the care of the skin (the largest organ of the body) using naturally-derived ingredients (such as herbs, roots, essential oils and flowers) combined with naturally occurring carrier agents, preservatives, surfactants, humectants and emulsifiers. For foot freshness, soak them for a few minutes in cold salted water. Cider vinegar can be added to the water instead of salt. Cider vinegar is said to cure itchiness of feet.

Skin is mostly due to the lack of proteins, vitamin B and vitamin C. Protein foods supply all the amino-acids essential for keeping your skin youthful and prove helpful for skin care. Ingredients as Chamomile have demonstrated healing and anti-inflammatory properties when applied topically. Facial skin is very thin and more sensitive to irritants and allergens then the rest of the body. Using face packs and masks helps to regain the hidden lost charm of your skin. Proteins, vitamins are important to the rebuilding of tissues and muscles of the face and body and prevention of wrinkles. Many spas and skin care salons now focus on using more naturally derived skin care products. Pineapple is rich source of natural enzyme-bromelin,well known for its exfoliating properties.

Cleansing is the most important aspect of skin-care. Vitamin E has been known to improve moisturization, softness and smoothness and also provide modest photoprotection. Hot water dissolves skin oil better than lukewarm or cold water. Drink plenty of water as oily skin may also be dehydrated - the oiliness of the skin will hide the lack of moisture. Try to drink 2 litres of water a day. Healthy diet and plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated from the inside out. Foods rich in vitamin E include almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, broccoli, wheat germ, peanuts and vegetable oils. Vitamin A is essential for healthy skin. The most popular and effective skin-care regime, which yields maximum benefit to the skin, comprises the cleansing, toning, moisturizing and conditioning routines.

Do It the Natural Way – Natural Skin Care

By Milos Pesic

Natural skin care is much preferable in today's age and environment. Your skin already has too much pollutants originating from the air causing premature aging,so why add some more using synthetic skin care products? Having a naturally beautiful skin starts within. Your skin shows the kind of food you eat and the type of lifestyle you have. A dull, excessively oily skin could suggest you probably are munching too much fat and barely exercise.

You may try these natural skin care tips. It saves you a few dollars out of buying commercial "natural" skin care products and gives a boost to your system as well.

Natural skin care tips

Our skin sheds dead skin cells everyday. Unfortunately, it doesn't do that by itself. Give your skin a dry brush exfoliation before you take a shower in the morning to eliminate the top layer dead skin cells. Dry brush exfoliation allows skin to detoxify and improves blood circulation, which in turn nourishes the skin by distributing nutrients and oxygen to every skin cell. Use a soft, natural bristle brush.

Next, digestion is one factor that contributes to the type of skin we can have. Poor digestion often result to acne, psoriasis, and rosacea. The two common culprits for a sluggish digestion is: 1) not having sufficient fiber in the diet, and 2) not enough water. Doctors advice the intake of 8 full glasses of water a day to normalize your bodily functions. Also, eat fruits (like apples) with skin on and munch on high fiber snacks. They're good for your tummy and skin.

Third, get moving! Exercise helps out by improving your blood circulation eliminating body wastes through sweat. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, make sure exercise is part of your natural skin care regimen. However, always take a warm shower after sweating it out to wash off dirt and sweat.

Sugar is another factor of premature aging. Excessive sugar intake, in the process, leads to glycation. This is a process in which a sugar molecule called glucose sticks to amino acids (protein molecules) causing it to form other molecules called advanced glycation end-products or AGE. AGE is damaging to skin cells, bone cartilage, as well as ligaments resulting in premature aging. As part of your natural skin care, lessen your daily intake of sugar as much as possible. In addition, the natural food we eat like fruits or bread already contain sugar so there's actually no need to add some more.

Lastly, essential fats are necessary in cell division to make new ones as in cell membranes, hormones, etc. Sources of essential fats include oils from nuts, fish, or fish oil supplements.

Natural skin care doesn't have to be expensive. Patience is a virtue (as the cliché goes) because you need to work it out. Results might not be achieved overnight.

Natural Skin Care For Cracked Skin

By Kevin Pederson

When you suffer eczema or psoriasis, your skin cracks, thus presenting you with painful slits or fissures. They cause agony even while doing simple movements. Your skin cracks and can give you a terrible pain. Hands and feet are the most vulnerable spots for this problem. But other spots like mouth, lips, cheeks etc. too can be affected. Usually the areas between toes and on the heels are affected. These fissures, if neglected can cause infection. Generally, women who wear open-backed heels and slides are affected.

Treatment for the cracked skin:
• Soak yourself: the best treatment for the dry skin is to have a good bath every night before going to sleep. This enables your skin cells to absorb water, since these cells are like sponge. You can also soak the affected body part for about 20 minutes in the warm water and then pat dry.
• Apply petroleum products: once you are through with your bath, apply a coating of petroleum jelly product. Then put on a pair of socks for your feet or a pair of light cotton gloves for hands to seal the moisture. These petroleum products work far better than the commercial moisturizers, since they do not have the same sealing effects.
• Stick the cracks: you can apply a glue to ease the pain caused by the fissures. This takes the air out of the nerve endings and thus sticks the slits. This procedure is completely safe for slits and minor cuts. However, avoid using this method on the deep wounds.
• Avoid tartar toothpaste: if you suffer from cracked lips, minimize your usage of tartar toothpaste. This toothpaste contains compounds that irritate the mucuous membranes and other sensitive tissues. These toothpastes leave the skin cracked and cause a rash which itches around the mouth.

Following some of the above mentioned steps can help you in preventing/curing cracked skin.

Natural Skin Care: Secrets to a Younger-Looking and Fresher-Feeling Skin

By Ismael Tabije

The skin forms a protective covering, a close-fitting garment, for the whole body. It is of unequal thickness, it is thick and tough over those parts that are exposed to pressure and friction, but it is especially elastic in other parts that vary in size. But in every place it is adapted to the purpose of protection.

It is both a secreting and an excreting organ, and our health, our very lives, depends upon its proper action. If its millions of glands and pores become obstructed it is impossible for one to be healthy. On the other hand, when these openings — the safety valves of the body — are free and clear the impurities of the body are readily thrown off. The circulation is then improved, digestion is easier, intestinal and urinary secretions become more regular.

Equilibrium is established in the eliminating process between the skin and the internal organs, and an improvement in the nervous condition result as well. My own experience has been that daily friction of the skin will materially relieve insomnia. These friction exercises should be followed by a tepid bath. The moral of it all is: Keep the skin clean by friction and bathing.

The skin is composed of three layers. Overlying the true skin is the cuticle, or scarfskin, and although we commonly call this the skin, it is really only a protecting layer over the true skin. It has no blood vessels, so it never bleeds and, since it contains no nerves, it feels no pain. The microscope shows that it is composed entirely of minute flat scales, which overlap each other very much like the shingles of a roof. These scales are formed by the true skin beneath, and are constantly thrown off from the body. Ordinarily this is imperceptible; but sometimes the scales accumulate into masses, called scurf. Or, if the accumulation is upon the scalp, it is known as dandruff.

The complexion largely depends on the condition of the scarfskin. If it is rough, a good complexion is impossible. Temporary improvement can be obtained by use of the remedies dear to the feminine mind — “skin foods,” face creams and face powders. But all of these ap¬plications have the same result: they simply fill up the minute lines, and temporarily smooth the rough surface. However, when this coating is washed off, the skin will resume its former condition.

Advertisements of so-called “skin foods”— lotions, creams, etc. positively assert that these preparations feed and nourish the skin, and build up the underlying muscles, and that the benefit derived from their use is therefore permanent. If the ingredients of all these preparations could be forced into the true skin and the muscles, and could there be converted into living cellular tissue, of which all parts of the body (the skin included) are com¬posed, this claim might have some foundation of truth.

But as these cells can only come into life by the process of digestion and assimilation, the fallacy of the above claim is apparent. You certainly cannot form or “build up” living tissue from dead matter. The term “skin food” is a very attractive title for these greasy, waxy preparations, but neither the skin nor the muscles can feed on that kind of food. By friction some very slight superficial absorption of the lotion or cream is possible; but even this does not become living tissue.

Their immediate effect is to coat the surface of the skin, which, after their use, assumes a smoother appearance. But this is temporary, and there can be no growth or improvement of the underlying muscles by such applications. The objection to these ointments is that they clog up and obstruct the myriads of underlying pores and glands. If you would have a healthy skin, these out¬lets for the impurities of the system must be kept clean and clear. Otherwise the skin cannot be healthy.

Natural Skin Care: The Exercise Way to Cure Wrinkled Skin

The secret of a fresh, healthy skin is friction and cleanliness. It is advisable that these friction exercises be practiced daily— and followed by a tepid bath.

For the face and neck, friction with the palms of the hands is an effective method of removing wrinkles. They can be rubbed out, and the skin can be polished just like any other piece of leather. Use tepid water and soap for the ablutions of the face and neck.

In a very short time after beginning these friction exercises for the body, you will find that the nervous system is calmer and that both the digestion and the circulation are improved. And what will prove of special interest to ladies is that the friction exercises for the face and neck will surely result in a marked improvement.

Herbs for Natural Skin Care Must Be Matched to Your Skin Type

By Gloria MacTaggart

Herbal skin care products are becoming more popular, but different herbs have different properties. Unless you know what those properties are, you could wind up with preparations that make dry skin drier and oily skin oilier. Herbal products are always a good idea if you are a fan of natural skin care, but find out which are best before you buy.

Here are the basics that you need to know: dry skin needs herbs with emollient properties. Emollients soften and soothe the skin, and help replace some of the skin's natural oils. Oily skin needs astringents to tighten the skin, close the pores and help heal the blemishes that are more prominent with this skin type. As blemishes can become infected it is also a good idea to combine astringent herbs with those that have antiseptic properties. Normal skin needs neutral herbs - those with neither astringent nor emollient properties.

Some of the most common emollient herbs are comfrey, violet, elder flowers, irish moss and marshmallow. Astringent herbs include marigold, calendula and witch hazel. Fortunately, each of these astringent herbs also have antiseptic and healing properties, so they are doubly good for oily skin. For those with blemished dry skin, add a little thyme.

A word of warning about marigold - make sure you get pot marigold. The other one you may run into is French marigold - very toxic, used for weed killer and insecticides and definitely not suitable for natural skin care.

Normal skin responds best to thyme or yarrow. Both have cleansing and toning properties, but are neither astringent nor emollient. They are very refreshing.

Although these herbs are available as extracts and in a variety of ready-made natural skin care products, you can make them quite simply at home. Soak the herbs in hot water for about 30 minutes, keeping the heat on during that time but never allowing them to boil. After cooling, strain out the herbs and pour the liquid into a bottle for use. Simply pat the preparation on the skin, leave it on for 10 - 30 minutes, rinse off and dry.

Another great advantage to making your own skin care products is that you know exactly what's in them. Products that you buy, while they may contain beneficial herbs, may also contain other ingredients that are harsh or toxic, or may not be right for your skin type. Try adding these to your natural skin care basic routine for a week or two and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Natural Skin Care – Find The Right Balance For Your Skin

By John Samuels

While some of us are blessed with skin that seems able to take a nuclear blast and still not show a blemish, others are not so lucky. Sensitive skin needs special care, including a definate effort to protect the skin from the sun which will prematurely age your skin. The market for skin care products is quite obviously huge but despite all the products available few really deliver on the promises their advertising makes. There are loads of options that can be found in the market meant for skin care but no chemicals have been proven to be effective enough to give desired results. In the worst cases these various products can contain chemicals which will cause irritation in sensitive skin, causing you far more problems than you had before you even tried any of their products.

When one has sensitive skin often the best and most effective solutions are the natural products, the natural skin care solutions which will be gentle enough for your skin to handle without causing difficulties. This is due to the fact that the natural skin care products are often a far more gentle gentle approach to drive out the problems with a high level of effectiveness. The natural skin care solutions can be quite effective in almost all cases of skin problems as they work more by enhancing and restoring the skins own natural defences and balances rather than overppowering them with foriegn chemicals.

So How Can Natural Skin Care Solutions Help You?

The general natural skin care product categories include a wide variety of products that feed the skin to enhance the vitality and balance of its health and appearance. These products are usually designed containing general organic herbal waters which have been shown to contain essential oils, trace minerals, desired antioxidants and natural vitamins which will aid in skin health.

The various ingredients of natural skin care solutions work to nourish the starving skin and strengthen the cells, while helping to repair the worn out conditioning of the skin by making the skin far more capable of healing, soothing and detoxifying itself. The antioxidant is one of the most desired elements for the skin as it serves to fight free radicals which have been shown to be very damaging to all parts of the body, especially the skin. Other ingredients which will also have a beneficial anti oxidant effect are Vitamin-A, Vitamin-C and Vitamin-E, all potent anti oxidants.

Also very beneficial to the skin are natural floral oils extracted from the trees and the flowers of Lavender, Cedar Wood, Tea, and Naiouli. These are the best and most effective ways of treating the acne ridden and the oily skin by balancing the sebum oil secretion. The oils extracted from these flowers are also very capable in fighting off skin infections which is a plus these days with all the toxins floating around in the air.

A natural skincare system involves a carefully planned skin treatment regime using the floral extractions which generally have very few side effects as compared to the harsh chemicals in more commercial products. Many of the more well known skin specialists generally avoid prescribing the harsher chemical drugs and ointments in order to avoid the chance of side effects. Some great examples of natural cleansers are the combination of oats, honey and earth and have all proven to be great options to give your skin a gentle but nourishing cleansing, a great addition to any healthy beauty routine.

Natural Skin Care Products - Will Your Skin Benefit?

By Annie Weatherburn

I did my research and feel that natural skin care products, organic skin care products or aromatherapy products - whatever you would like to call them, do provide great benefits to your skin. I found out some startling facts about what was contained in the skin care products I had currently been using and converted to a natural skin care regime. Why did I change my ways? Well, just over two years ago I turned 50. The shock was not how old I was but how my skin had suddenly began to lose its elasticity and the ageing process had taken hold.

This couldn’t be happening as I’d always had such a young appearance with lots of friends saying I always only looked around 35. Were they still saying this? I’d noticed that compliment hadn’t come my way in some time so I decided to adjust my lifestyle and renew not only my vigour but perhaps what went into my body and onto my skin.

Firstly, I opted for a healthy balanced diet and lost a little of that excess weight I’d seem to build up from too much wining and dining with friends. I began to exercise – that really got the blood rushing to my facial tissues! Next I took a good look at the products I was using on my skin. Previously I had used many off-the-shelf products, ranging from moderately priced to expensive well-known brands. I had never tried natural skin care products before. I began to research all about natural skin care and found some alarming discoveries of the harmful chemical substances that were in many of the skin care creams and potions I had been using. Do a search on chemicals used in skin care and you will find out some shocking facts that should convert you to natural products forever!

My own research was a life-changing career path as I discovered the many fantastic benefits of natural skin care and of the potent and fantastic vibrancy to be found in organic skin care products due to the concentrated effect that the organic ingredients contained. It prompted me to create my own range of natural skin care products which I have called Essentially Me Australia. Today, I’m writing articles about natural skin care – who would have thought? The one thing however that confused me back then the most was how to decipher the skin care ingredients on packaging or claimed to be in products? Some of those names are very complex but what do they mean. Well, chemical ingredient lists are extensive so I’ll leave this to you to do a browse and find out about all those harmful chemicals in skin care as I mentioned earlier, but for the natural ingredients that are beneficial – here’s an overview:

A natural compound, found naturally in the skin of fish (especially wild salmon) is called DMAE or Dimethylaminoethanol. It is especially well known for providing excellent collagen support to outermost layers of skin. DMAE or Dimethylaminoethanol helps to tighten the skin providing a firmer skin reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Next we have a natural acid, Alpha Lipoic Acid, which is a very potent antioxidant that eliminates free radicals. Free radicals are one of the primary factors in the aging of skin and breakdown of skin elasticity. You can actually take Alpha Lipoic Acid internally as a skin supplement or apply externally. This wonderful natural acid dramatically improves the skin's appearance very quickly and visible results are evident within weeks.

How many times have you heard that Vitamin C is good for you? Well it is great for the skin – this is for sure. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and is proven to increase the production and synthesis of collagen. In skin care it also protects the skin from sun damage, and even helps reverse the damaging effects that the sun has on the skin. This does not mean that a sunscreen can be abandoned but rather products that contain Vitamin C will actually be more likely to be able to neutralise free radicals. Vitamin C can be included in any skin care type product.

Lastly in my article I’d like to mention ,b>Retinol (a natural form of Vitamin A). Retinol is excellent in skin care products that are aimed to regenerate and rejuvenate skin. It is especially effective on sensitive skin since it does not cause redness or peeling.

Essential oils – so many that are fantastic for the skin. Natural oils used as a base in skin care should be cold pressed. The most beneficial plant oils (like rosehip, borage and evening primrose oils) are polyunsaturated, which means they oxidise and go rancid fairly quickly (about 6 months) so some natural products actually use synthetic preservatives and a natural preservative for example could be wheatgerm oil.

Some common natural ‘safe’ ingredients you may see listed are: Aloe vera, purified water, cold-pressed oils such as jojoba, safflower, sweet almond, olive oil and so on, herbal extracts, non-gmo lecithin, calendula, essential oils of various types, cocoa butter, shea butter, beeswax, clays, d-panthenol and of course the other ingredients mentioned earlier to name a few.

Finally we suggest you avoid skin care products that contain the following: mineral oils, petrolatum, propylene glycol, parabens, phthalates, SLS and SLES.

I invite you to and I encourage you to take a look at just what you are putting into your body and onto your skin. Also feel free to visit my own site for Natural Skin Care Products | Organic Skin Care Products.

The Best Natural Skin Care Product For Dry Skin

By Helen Hecker

Skin is not dry because it lacks oil, but because it lacks water. Symptoms most associated with Xeroderma (dry skin) are scaling, which is the visible peeling of the outer skin layer, itching and cracks in the skin. The good news is that today, there are several types of natural treatments to choose from for your dry skin.

Skin also harbors many nerve endings that provide the sense of touch and heat. Skin is considered one of the most important parts of the body. The skin is often known as "the largest organ of the human body".

The dermis is tightly connected to the epidermis by a basement membrane. The dermis is the layer of skin beneath the epidermis that consists of connective tissue and cushions the body from stress and strain. Epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin.

The skin loses moisture and may crack and peel, or become irritated and inflamed. Forced-air furnaces make skin even drier. Environmental factors such as exposure to sun, wind, cold, chemicals, or cosmetics, or excessive bathing with harsh soaps, can cause dry skin. Nutritional deficiencies, especially deficiencies of vitamin A and the B vitamins, can also contribute to dry skin.

Use as little soap as possible limiting its use to armpits and genitals. Drink plenty of water every day. Use a humidifier if the air is dry.

Eat at least one organic apple with the skin on every day. Consider taking cod liver oil or fish oil supplements every day. Concentrating on a diet of lots of fruits and vegetables (preferably uncooked) and no junk food, should give you an observable improvement within 30 days. Good skin is often a reflection of a good digestive system. Fatty acids are particularly important to people with dry skin.

Use bath oils and moisturizers, especially coconut oil, which is the best natural product fr dry skin, at least daily. Also use a thin layer of coconut oil under your make-up to moisturize your skin all day. Apply a thin layer of coconut oil and massage it deep into the skin. Apply coconut oil anytime to heal and soothe your skin.

Sunlight, water and air play an important role in keeping the skin healthy. The skin must be regularly cleaned or it'll become cracked or inflamed. The skin supports its own ecosystems of microorganisms, including yeasts and bacteria, which cannot be removed by any amount of cleaning.

Skin doctors are called dermatologists. Usually, these days, we can take care of dry skin without seeing our doctor, but sometimes we can't avoid it. See your doctor or naturopathic doctor if your skin doesn't improve in spite of your best efforts.

Natural Skin Care Support & Advice, Part I - Stop Skin Damage

By John David Russell

Natural skin care advice and support starts with understanding what causes skin damage. You can support your skin and your health by avoiding these four key factors involved in skin damage.

Natural Skin Care Support 1 - Stress

Our bodies react to stress by releasing adrenaline, which redirects blood flow away from the skin and sends it to the muscles. Tension also slows the skin’s rate of cell turnover, so it takes longer for fresh, new cells to reach the skin’s surface.

Natural Skin Care Support 2 – Lack of Sleep

Ever wonder why you get dark circles under your eyes when you don’t get enough sleep? Fatigue leads to pallor that makes blood flow beneath the skin more visible, and this is most apparent under the eyes. A 2001 article in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology found that the stress placed on the body from lack of sleep can lead to skin issues, including acne.

Natural Skin Care Support 3 – Alcohol

Anyone who’s ever had a hangover knows that alcohol dehydrates the body, and that includes the skin. Alcohol also depletes the body’s supply of vitamin A, which not only lowers skin’s defense against bacteria and infections, but also plays a role in skin-cell turnover by maintaining collagen production. Alcohol also makes the skin more prone to redness and blotchiness, and overindulging may even trigger psoriasis.

Natural Skin Care Support 4 – Smoking

First and foremost, smoking constricts the blood vessels, reducing blood flow (and the supply of oxygen and nutrients) to the skin. Research has also shown that nicotine may increase production of the enzyme that breaks down collagen, thus, accelerating the formation of wrinkles.

When collagen breakdown is coupled with repetitive lip pursing and the squinting associated with shielding the eyes from smoke, fine lines and wrinkles become even more apparent.

Even secondhand smoke exposure has a detrimental effect on the skin since a smoky environment has a drying effect on the skin’s surface. Food for thought: Smokers in their 40s often have skin as wrinkled as nonsmokers in their 60s, and smokers are twice as likely to develop skin cancer as nonsmokers.

Natural Skin Care Regime for Ethnic Differences in Skin Characteristics

By Danny Siegenthaler

The world is a big place and there are many different cultures, Europeans, Scandinavians, Asians, Africans, Hispanics and many, many more. Each of these cultures tends to have certain characteristics such as eye colour, hair colour, skin colour, etc,. Inherent with cultural backgrounds is a difference in skin types. For example, western cultures such as the central and northern Europeans have a tendency to fair complexions, hair and eye colour, while southern Europeans dent to have darker hair, brown eyes and darker, olive skin tones.

Africans and African Americans, have very dark or almost black skin, usually dark or black hair and brown eyes. Genetically, this skin type is less susceptible to the UV rays, although their skin can still get burned.

Asians on the other hand have a yellowish skin tone and can have brown or blue eyes but have mostly dark or black hair. Yes, genetics does have its opinion on how we look. The cultural differences are reflected in the skin and the genetic factors play an important role in how well our skin looks, how ‘tough’ it is and how vulnerable it is to certain skin problems.

For example, cultures that have a tendency to body hair, also have a tendency to oily skin and therefore have a potential problem with blocked secretory glands resulting in pimples and other skin problems. On the other hand, the Irish, who have a tendency to red hair and very fair skin, have less of a problem with oily skin, but they do tend to get burned easily and thus stand a greater risk to skin cancers. Similarly the Scandinavians and other central and northern Europeans and Americans.

Below are some generalised characteristics of various skin types from different cultural backgrounds:

Skin Characteristics of people with Anglo-Saxon origins

  • Fair, dry thin-skinned
  • Scars heal well
  • Signs of aging appear earlier
  • Burn easily in the sun
  • Bruising more obvious
  • Increased chance of skin cancer

Skin Characteristics of people with Southern Mediterranean origins

  • Oily, olive dark complexion
  • Signs of aging appear later
  • Cartilage tends to droop
  • Darker, thicker scars more common
  • Wrinkles appear later and in more localized areas
  • Skin cancer is rare

Skin Characteristics of people with Northern European origins / German and Scandinavian

  • Fair, blue-eyed, blonde
  • Thin skin
  • Scars heal well
  • Signs of aging appear early
  • Bruising more obvious
  • Greater chance of skin cancer

Skin Characteristics of people with African/African-American origins

  • Signs of aging appear very late
  • Very little fine wrinkling
  • Formation of keloids is possible
  • Pigmentation changes may occur
  • Thicker cartilage hard to change
  • Skin cancers are very rare

Skin Characteristics of people with Northern European/Irish and northern England

  • Ruddy freckled complexion
  • Red hair
  • Scars usually thin
  • Signs of aging appear later
  • Bruises easily
  • Pigmentation problems
  • Skin cancers are most common in this type

Skin Characteristics of people with Asian origins

  • Signs of aging appear late
  • Fine wrinkling does not usually occur
  • Pigmentation changes may occur
  • Skin cancers are very rare

Skin Characteristics of people with Southern European origins

  • Dark, oily brunette complexion
  • Signs of aging appear later
  • Fine wrinkling less common
  • Bruising lasts longer
  • Scars may be thicker and darker
  • Skin cancers are less common

Identifying the correct, natural skin care system for your skin's characteristics is essential and may need to be adjusted depending on your specific genetic influences, as within each of these groups, there is a wide range in skin tones, which tend to overlap from group to group.

Each of the different categories of skin characteristics has various advantages and disadvantages specific to that group. However, the overall structures and functions of our skin are very similar and are therefore cared for in very similar ways. Knowing your skin’s particular strengths and weaknesses, you can tailor your skin care approach to your particular skin-characteristics.

Use These Natural Skin Care Tips for Healthy Skin

By Rose Lindy

Have you ever noticed that you can tell by someones face how much stress they have been living under. There is just something about the skin of a person who has had a lot of stress for a long period of time. They definately look older than they are. Did you know there is a physiological reason for this? People who experience physical or mental stress for long periods of time incur biochemical changes in their body which ages the skin faster than someone who has not lived with excessive stress over a long period of time. Studies have shown that stress can increase the symptoms of some skin problems such as itching, tics, hives, eczema and psoriasis.

What does all this have to do with natural skin care tips? Well, because stress is shown to have such a negative affect on our skin and can even make some skin conditions worse, it makes sense that one of the most natural things you can to to help your skin is to find ways to reduce the stress in your life. Therefore the foremost point regarding the natural skin care tips is to reduce the stress in your life, physically and mentally, because the body and mind work together. The natural skin care tips are all about taking care of the skin to promote the skin health in a natural way without chemicals.

Making sure your digestive system is healthy and working well is a one of the natural skin care tips that is often overlooked. This is a very inexpensive thing to do. Make sure you are eating enough fiber and drinking enough water to clear out your digestive tract. Remember, you cannot eat fiber without drinking water or you will probably have the opposite result of what you were hoping for. Fiber needs water to move through the body or it will just bunch up. Often people who have acne, psoriasis and rosacea have had imbalanced digestive systems. So make sure you are addressing this all important area.

I am sure you have heard dozens of times that you are to drink six to eight glasses of water a day. Well did you know that it is not only to loose weight, but the water actually cleans out the toxins from your body. This is key for natural skin care tips because toxins can build up and cause skin problems. Water not only keeps the toxins flushed out of your body, but it also keeps your skin hydrated which will help you look younger.

Have you ever heard of Glycation? Let me explain it to you and you will see how it fits into natural skin care tips. Glycation is when your protein molecules are damaged by your glucose molecules. This forms advanced glycation end products and these reduce the elasticity of your skin because the collagen in your skin gets damaged. Bottom line is this causes wrinkle. All of this is caused by eating too much sugar. So you know what I am going to say, cut down on your sugar and do not over do the sweets. This is a very easy thing to do in the natural skin care tips list.

The last natural skin care tip I am going to give you is to start adding some supplements of the following: Flaxseed oils, walnut oil, cold-water fish, fish oil supplements, etc. These oils will supply you with good fats and believe it or not, this type of fat is good for your skin. The reason they are good for your skin is because they are the essential fats that make up cell membranes, hormones and some body chemical. So as you can see, some fats are good for you.

Natural Skin Care Tips: 10 Skin Care Tips Women Must Know (Part 2)

By Ashley Green

Right eating habits and the right natural care can do wonders for your looks and health. Here are some precious natural skin care tips which will make your skin glow round the clock.

1) Wake up your looks: Tossing and turning all night can show on your face the next morning. But you can look rested even when you are not. Try these quick-picker-uppers to wake up your looks.

. Shower 'up': Take a shower with an energizing body scrub and a nylon loofah. Let the spray massage tension away. Switch to cool water for the final rinse.

. Wear an energizing fragrance: Try scents with hints of lemon, jasmine, bergamot, lily of the valley, hyacinth, basil, and geranium.

2) For Dark Circles: Grated potatoes can lighten under-eye circles. Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which is used in cosmetics as a human skin lightener. Put the potatoes in a food processor and stuff the raw mash into a piece of cheese cloth. Apply to the area directly beneath your eye- dont let the potato juice come in contact with the eye itself - and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Wipe away the starchy residue.

3) Fixing Dark Circles: Other traditional and well known remedy is to place cucumber slices on eyelids while relaxing in hot bath. This will be like pampering yourself to the acme, treating yourself like a queen.

4) Soft Hands: So your hands dont feel soft anymore? Before you go to bed, lavishly apply vaseline and then pop on a pair of cotton gloves. Your hands will be incredibly soft by morning.

5) White nails: To whiten your nails, try these:

. Use a common whitening tooth paste. Try scrubbing your nails with toothpaste, its just as easy as achieving a pearly white smile and will take away any stains and shine up your nails.

. Soak your nails in water with lemon juice or lemon slices. The lemon acts as an astringent and will strip away stains.

Right eating habits and the right natural care can do wonders for your looks and health. Here are some precious natural skin care tips which will make your skin glow round the clock.

1) Glowing Facial Mask: Having a tough time keeping your skin glowing? Well, here is an easy way to keep the radiance on your face intact. All you need is: a tbsp fuller's earth. 1 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp mashed papaya. Mix all these ingredients and put on face for 20 minutes then rinse off.

2) Gentle facial cleanser: Take a 1/2 cup of oatmeal or cornmeal and plain yoghurt (add enough yoghurt to form a paste). For a gentle facial cleanser, mix the ingredients, smooth over the entire face avoiding eye area. Wash off with warm water. Oatmeal is highly absorptive, hypoallergenic, and helps to soften skin. Oats have the best amino acid balance of all the cereal grains (amino acids work as water-binding agents in skin care products). Oats have also been clinically shown to help heal dry, itchy skin.

3) Hair Spray: Chop one lemon(or an orange for dry hair). Place in a pot with two cups water. Boil until half of the initial amount remains. Cool, strain, and place in a spray bottle. Store in refrigerator. If it is too sticky, add more water. Add one ounce of alcohol as a preservative and thenthe spray can be stored for up to two weeks unrefrigerated.

4) Hair Cocktail:

. For instant shine: Lightly beat two eggs mixed with some milk and run throuigh your hair. Leave on for five minutes, rinse and you will see a shine instantly.

. For Dandruff: Dissolve two aspirins in your dandruff shampoo and watch how it clears up. Use a good moisturizing conditioner afterward.

. For greasy hair: Use face powder. Put a little at the root of your hair before straying. If it is a serious problem, put the powder on heavily for 15 minutes wash completely, condition lightly, and style.

. Sweet shine: Honey applied in a small amount while washing the hair will give you a great shine.

5) Blackheads removal: Combine one fourth cup boiling water with one teaspoon of Epsom salt and three drops of Iodine. Let mixture cool until it's comfortable to the touch. Saturate a cotton ball with this mixture and dab on blackheads. This will allow the black heads to loosen so they can be easily squeezed with a gauze pad. Remember to apply a moisturiser soon after.

Certified Organic Skin Care vs. Natural Skin Care

By Erika Juhas

As you walk through today’s health and natural food grocery stores you will find an extensive selection of “natural” skin and body care products. These products will range from toothpaste and deodorant to cosmetics, lotion, and hair care. It seems that many of the companies providing these products are striving to promote their products as “natural” since today’s consumers seem to have a preference towards any product labeled “natural”. This definitely makes sense because really who would walk up and purchase a bottle that says “loaded with silicone derivatives” or “extra carcinogens”.

Now you’re thinking no one in there right mind would do this right. I mean who goes to the store and actually tries to buy a skin care product that will cause their body damage. Actually most people these days do exactly that, unknowingly of course as they aren’t aware of the toxic ingredients in the product of their choice. What people need to start realizing is that not every company that throws the word natural on their product really cares about the ingredients being truly natural. If you do a little research on the ingredients in skin care the information is alarming as you find that many skin care products contain carcinogens and other toxic ingredients. Check out a website called skin deep for more information on what is in your skin care.

Aren’t skin care products supposed to be helping your body not hurting it? Yes, they are but unfortunately that isn’t the case with all of the products available. This is where certified organic skin and body care products come in. When they are certified organic they have to meet strict requirements by the certifying body and are very safe for the consumer. Certified organic skin care products are made up of ingredients you can actually read and understand such as avocado oil and safflower oil not six syllable words that don’t mean a thing to you. This way you actually know what you are feeding your skin rather than just hoping it works because the company that made it claims it will.

When you go to purchase a “natural” product be sure to research the company producing it. Find out what their stand is on ingredients such as silicone derivatives and the like are. See if there focus is on a toxin free line of skin care or just one that smells good etc. There are wonderful certified organic skin care products available so don’t settle for some supposedly natural junk when you can have the best available for your skin.

Erika Juhas is the owner of Kalista Organics. She offers extensive information regarding the organic lifestyle on her website. Primarily she represents an organic line of skin and body care products that will contribute to eliminating toxic chemicals from your body.

Natural Skin Care Products - Finding the Right Natural Products for Your Skin Type

By Jennifer Parks

Natural skin care is a must for some of us who consider a product safer and healthier for the skin when it is made up of natural ingredients. But different skin types are sensitive to different products - even natural products.

For example a person with oily/acne prone skin has to be very careful of what kind of moisturizer they apply to their face. Alternately a person with dry/sensitive or delicate skin has to be careful also. So how can one tell, especially if purchasing a product online, if that product is right for their skin type?

Here's a few things you can do to help you find out if a natural skin care product is right for you:

1. Find out if the active ingredients within the product is natural. This is an important first step, the closer to nature an active ingredient is, generally it is safer for the skin. Using a product with un-natural or drug derived ingredients, and a few natural ingredients thrown in for good measure is not actually a natural product. So find out if the active ingredients is derived from nature.

2. Read the testimonials. reading testimonials for a product carefully, and thoroughly will help you to understand how the product has helped other people. As you study the testimonials for a product note carefully if the majority of satisfied users have the same skin type or conditions as you do and what their response was to using the product.

Picture testimonials (before and after) are another way to help you see HOW the product really helped the person, if there was a noticeable difference and enough testimonials the product is more than likely worth trying.

3. Ask. This one sounds very obvious, but if you really want to know if a product should not be used by a person with your skin type, and you cannot answer that question from the information on the product website then don't hesitate to contact the webmaster and explain what type of skin you have, explain your concern and ask if the product is safe for you to use.

4. Be sure there is a Guarantee! This one also sounds obvious, but if you're going to test a product that you've never tried before then you want to make sure the company or website that offers it can guarantee your satisfaction before purchase.

If your skin is sensitive to the product after you test it then by all means return the product for a refund. Shop around, take the time to find out if a product is right for you before you buy.

How Does Organic Skin Care Differ From Natural Skin Care?

By Joseph Giordano

Do you know the difference between organic skin care and natural skin care products? Is there a difference, and, if so, is it an important issue for you to consider?

Many people can become confused by these terms and, frankly, the regulating authorities are not making it any easier for consumers. There are many skin care formulas on the average retail shelf that state that they are "All Natural" or are "Organic", but most are not all natural or truly organic in nature. It is unfortunate, but true, that marketing and advertising claims alone will not alert you to the true ingredients that are contained in many of these products. In order for you to know what exactly is in a product, you have to read the ingredients list.

Here is a good way to read ingredient lists and know what is in the product. By law, all skin care products, natural or otherwise, must be labeled with the ingredients that they contain in descending order of their quantity within the product. You should divide the ingredient list into thirds. The top third of the ingredients listed usually contains 90-95% of the product. The middle third usually contains 5-8% of the product, and the bottom third, 1-3% of the total product.

The reason people want to use natural products is simple. As more research is done on chemical based products, we are learning that some of the ingredients used in these products can be harmful to our skin. Many of these products contain harsh chemicals that can easily lead to irritation as well as other health risks. For many consumers, avoiding these chemicals is the number one priority for using natural products.

So what is the difference between natural and organic? The main difference between the two is the use of pesticides and preservatives. Natural products, if they are truly natural and not simply being hyped as such, may contain ingredients that were exposed to pesticides while they were being grown or processed. Does this alone make them less desirable than, say, organic skin care products? Well, that depends on your own personal requirements as well as the amount of pesticides that may have been used during farming or cultivation. It should be noted that it is nearly impossible to know for certain the amount or even the type of pesticides that may have been used.

So called "natural" products can also be misleading to consumers in another way. It is legal for manufacturers to label product ingredients as being "derived from" and then add the name of some natural compound such as coconut oil. Consumers should be careful when they see this type of labeling because, frankly, when the processing and extraction process of these "natural" ingredients is completed, the end product is anything but natural. More often than not, these products contain chemical by-products encountered through chemical processing, and you should avoid any skin care formulas manufactured using these methods.

Organic skin care products, on the other hand, are not grown with the use of pesticides. They are also not supposed to include preservatives in their formulations. Most of the well known brands follow these principles, but, again, consumers should be careful. Recent changes in this industry have allowed the best skin care companies to use the words "Certified Organic" in their labeling. When you see this wording on a product label, you can be relative assured that the product contained is truly organic.

On the issue of which type of product is best, natural or organic, the best advice is to lean toward organic skin care products whenever possible; with the caveat to make sure that the product is a certified product. The reason for leaning this way is because so many natural products are simply not natural at all. Advertising claims made by several companies are misleading to consumers, and some of their tricks are hard to detect. There are, of course, some brands that are truly formulated with all natural and organic ingredients and you should consider using those formulas. It is important that you read the ingredient list very carefully and be suspicious of any ingredients that are labeled as being derived from some other ingredient.

One thing is for sure, when you use truly natural or truly organic skin care products you are doing yourself and your skin a favor. The chemical based products that are being sold today can have long term effects on your health and some of these compounds may even cause cancer if used for long periods of time.

Natural Skin Care Products - Why Natural Ingredients Work Best on Skin

By Danna Schneider

Natural Skin Care Products - Why Hundreds are Making the Switch to Natural Products

Natural skin care products seem to be on the rise recently. Go to your local drugstore and you'll see evidence of this.

"Natural Skin Care" seems to be quite a buzzword lately, and with good reason - many natural skin care ingredients actually outperform their man-made counterparts. As with any other natural beauty product, unfortunately the adage "you get what you pay for" applies almost two-fold here.

If you're spending very little, odds are you are getting a watered down or poorly manufactured version of the primary natural ingredient you are looking to receive skin repair benefits from. Natural skin products must contain a high enough concentration and quality of the essential nutrients, vitamins or compounds they advertise in order to have any effect at all in most cases.

So, to give you an idea of what to look for, here is a summary of a few of the most potent natural skin care products. Some can actually be taken as an oral skin health supplement, while all of them come in topical application form. They are all absolutely the most powerful skin mending agents available today. You won't believe the difference these can make in your skin tone, clarity, firmness, and reduction of lines and wrinkles. It is nothing short of amazing that these powerful compounds are found in nature and have such profound healing properties.

1.)DMAE or Dimethylaminoethanol

This natural compound, found naturally in the skin of fish (especially wild salmon)is known for providing excellent collagen support to the outermost layers of skin (the most important since this is what shows on the surface!). The results are tighter, firmer skin and a great reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. It also is known for helping to reduce age spots (liver spots), and is a well known memory and concentration enhancer.

2.)Alpha Lipoic Acid

This natural acid is a very potent antioxidant that eliminates free radicals, one of the primary factors in the aging of skin and breakdown of skin elasticity. When applied externally and taken internally as a skin supplement, it can dramatically improve skin's appearance within a matter of just a few weeks.

3.)Vitamin C

Well, Vitamin C truly is the miracle cure vitamin! Topical Vitamin C protects the skin from sun damage, and even helps reverse the effects of photodamage (sun damage) on the skin. It protects from sun damage(in conjunction with a sunscreen of course), by neutralizing free radicals. Vitamin C is actually the only antioxidant that is proven to increase the production and synthesis of collagen. Vitamin C is an absolute must-have in your skin care regimen regardless of your skin type.

4.)Retinol

Retinol is a natural form of vitamin A. It helps the skin regenerate and rejuvenate in a healthy manner and is especially effective on sensitive skin since it does not cause redness or peeling.

Using a combination of these four very effective natural skin care products, you can't help but see a noticeable difference in your skin. Don't be surprised if you suddenly start receiving complements like "have you been on vacation?", or "wow - what are you using on your skin?". This stuff is that good. Give it a few weeks, you'll see a huge improvement.

Who says we have to accept dull, wrinkled, broken out or uneven skin? You will never go back to a normal skin care routine once you've found the right natural skin care products!

Natural Skin Care Products Are The Answer To Your Skin Care Problems

By Danny Siegenthaler

These days many consumers treat synthetic ingredients in their skin care as potentially harmful, and so they should.

If you are asking yourself whether natural skin care products are the answer to all your skin care problems? The answer is a definite Yes. I have not come across a single skin problem that cannot be addressed equally well using natural skin care products as using any other types. Admittedly, I’ve only been in practice for just over 20 years, however, so far I have yet to see a skin condition that cannot be treated using a natural approach, excluding of course emergency medical conditions such as severe 3rd degree burns over large parts of the body, etc.

In an article I can across recently, entitled “Are Natural Skin Care Products the Answer To All Problems?”, the author asks the following questions:

So, are natural skin care products the answer to all of our problems? What if a natural skin care product is not available for the treatment of a particular skin disorder? Are the synthetic skin care products so harmful that they should be banned?

The answer is No natural skin care products do not fix all of our problems. Maybe the author should have asked ...so, are natural skin care products to answer to all our skin care problems? - then the answer would have still been No, and neither do any other skin care products on the market today - natural or otherwise.

Not all skin problems can be treated using some topical application - Many diseases such as measles, chickenpox, herpes and many more are diseases, which as part of their symptomatology, have a skin component. To think that using natural skin care products or for that matter a synthetically formulated skin care product could treat this types of conditions is ludicrous.

Sure, combine your internal medication (natural or drug-based) with a good quality, natural skin care product to address the itching, irritation and redness, etc., but don’t think for one moment that a skin care products is going to effect the chickenpox virus or any other infectious disease.

Similarly, skin problems just like any other long-term disorder have a multi-faceted complexity and require a systemic approach to treatment.

If on the other hand we are simply referring to dry, oily, mature or sensitive skin, than there is no need for synthetic chemicals. Nor is this the case in the treatment of dermatitis, psoriasis or similar conditions, unless they are of a genetic origin - then there is very little that can be done other than symptom control, which natural skin care products can do just as well as any synthetic equivalent, if not better.

You see most mass-produced skin care products, whether they are 100% natural skin care products or have a synthetic component, will not work on any condition that has an internal disease process involved. For example a hormonal imbalance may cause acne. This acne will persist until the hormonal imbalance is corrected.

Similarly, viral infections can cause skin rashes and they will persist until the viral infection has been addressed. Again, sure use a topical ointment or cream for the rash and yes, make sure it is a natural skin care product, because you don’t need to introduce more chemicals into the body, which it may have difficulty in utilising and/or eliminating.

In the same article, the answers to the above questions states:

Different people have different answers to these questions. However, the reality is that due to presence of synthetic preservatives, it’s really tough to find a natural skin care product that is 100% natural. There are natural skin care products that have natural preservatives, but their cost might be detrimental. Moreover, such natural skin products have a shorter shelf life and hence are not preferred by the manufacturers of natural skin care products.

Firstly, 100% natural skin care products are really not hard to find. There are dozens of companies that produce good quality, natural skin care products and they can be found using Yahoo, MSN or Google without much difficulty. Yes, they can be expensive, but they are no more expensive than similar, products containing synthetic chemicals produced by major brands such as L’Oreal, LancĂ´me, and others. In fact, most are a lot less costly.

Secondly, just because a natural skin care product has a natural preservative does not make them any more expensive. I should know, as we make a large range of natural skin care products and have done so for over 20 years. We supply customers all over the world, as well as our own patients, and over 80% of our customers have been long-term customers. Some of our products use natural preservatives such as Grape seed Oil or Wheat Germ Oil and neither of these oils are very pricey.

In addition, Essential oils are some of the most powerful antiseptic substances around, some are also have powerful antibiotic properties and if used correctly, they will preserve natural skin care products for at least 2 to 3 years without any trouble. Furthermore, many of our natural skin care and personal care product contain herbal extracts. Herbal extracts are by nature alcoholic and alcohol is a very good preservative. So you see, good quality natural skin care products do not need to have preservatives (synthetic ones) added to them.

This author further states:

Some people carry a wrong notion that since natural skin care products are natural, they cannot cause any harm to the skin. The suitability of a skin care product is not based on whether it is synthetic or natural. An unsuitable natural skin care product can harm you in almost the same way as a synthetic one. So, use natural skin care products, but be open to synthetic ones too (you might need them when a natural solution is not available)

Sure, we all know that nature produces powerful substances and some of these are the most potent killers if we are exposed to them - strychnine is an example that comes to mine, but any substance found in nature has the potential to create problems, some more serious than other. Why else would herbalist have to be trained for years if you could take any old tea and drink it to your heart’s content?

Many people have allergies to all sorts of chemicals (I mean naturally occurring ones as well as synthetic ones). However, that is not the product’s fault, these people unfortunately for them have a hypersensitivity to particular substances and their immune system needs to be treated. DON’T use a synthetic substitute - the natural substances are just as powerful as synthetic chemicals, why do you think is it that modern medicine still uses morphine-based drugs to treat severe pain? - there is no synthetic substitute that is more powerful a pain killer.

Natural skin care products that have been properly formulated to target a specific skin care need, are safer, usually more effective and cost no more than their synthetic counter parts.

When ever you choose to buy a new product which you use on your skin be it a natural one or not, you should consider the following:

  • Always look at the ingredient list and see if there are any to which you may be allergic.
  • Before you start using a product apply a small area of your skin first to see if you have any undesirable reaction. You may be allergic to something in the product, which you are not aware of and this may or may not be a natural substance.
  • Know what the product does and what it is indicated for before you buy it.
  • Choose products to suit your skin type and your skin’s needs.
  • If you are not sure, ask the manufacturer, write them an email or ring them up and ask them to explain or help.
